Chapter 1045: Desperate times call for desperate measures
"What do you intend to do with us?"
One of the five elders spoke as he looked at Yohan. All five of them were tied up to metal chairs, while Yohan sat casually right before them. The orb he had taken from the warden was levitating in the air, dazzling with a faint blue light.
Athena and Aana stood right behind Yohan, while Elder Song and Lucine stood in the corner of the room.
Yohan finally broke his silence; after all, he didn’t want to waste his time with these five grand elders. He simply wanted one thing.
"Where is my father?" he exclaimed while facing the five grand elders. The moment those words escaped his mouth, Elder Song was taken aback, knowing that the current patriarch, Su Lin, was missing. No wonder Yohan was going to this length to destroy the six great factions of the clan and was even willing to kill the grand elders who had served for centuries.
The five grand elders’ facial expressions changed drastically when Yohan mentioned Su Lin. Nevertheless, their gazes drifted to the levitating orb. If they confessed, it would be over for them; everything Yohan had done up until now would be justified, and they would simply be branded as traitors and left to rot in this underground barrack. In the worst-case scenario, their heads would be cut off and hung at the entrance of Rivershore City to make an example out of them.
All of them knew that the moment they opened their mouths, everything would be over for them.
"I don’t know what you are talking about, Young Master... I was not even aware that the patriarch was missing... I thought he was simply resting inside his manor..." one of the old men said, looking in Yohan’s direction. Athena and Aana frowned upon hearing this old man, while Yohan remained calm and composed.
"Indeed, we don’t know what this is all about. You can’t treat us like this; we have served this clan for centuries..." another one spoke, gritting his teeth.
"This is outrageous! You brought us here without any proper evidence or a trial... You even killed many of our disciples... You are going to pay for this..." Before the old man sitting in the middle could complete his sentence, Yohan simply blasted him with a kick, sending him and his chair flying directly into the wall of the barrack. His body was completely obliterated under that frightening force. The remaining four elders’ hearts nearly skipped a beat; after all, it happened so fast they couldn’t even comprehend that their partner had died just like that.
The four of them tilted their heads and looked back. The entire wall was painted red, and the elder’s insides were sticking out. The sight was gruesome, even for Elder Song and Lucine, who were standing in the corner of the barrack. Elder Song could only gulp nervously, knowing Yohan was simply ruthless—completely different from his usual calm personality.
"You killed him... without any trial?" one of the grand elders looked at Yohan and asked in a trembling voice, his entire body drenching in cold sweat.
"Hey, old man, do you think I give a fuck about any trial when my family is involved?" Yohan whispered, leaning forward. The four elders gasped and arched back, fearing him.
"If you bastards don’t tell me, one by one, I am going to make art out of you... You are going to join that bastard on the wall!" Yohan added, looking at the four old men with killing intent.
All of them were horrified hearing Yohan. They also looked at the orb, which was recording everything happening inside the barrack. All of them wondered why he was going this far; was he some kind of sadist who recorded his killings for fun? At first, they all thought they would be safe as long as the orb was recording everything, believing he would not do anything to them apart from asking questions. But now that he had killed one of their own partners despite being recorded, things had changed.
’He is definitely going to kill us,’ all of them thought inwardly, gulping nervously.
"I’ll ask again... where is my father?" A moment later, Yohan repeated the same question while tapping his right foot on the ground. All of them looked in the direction of his leg, and the horrifying memory played in their heads.
"The seven branch families are involved... trust me, Young Master, we have nothing to do with Patriarch Su Lin’s disappearance." One of the elders among the four couldn’t take it anymore. He didn’t want to get obliterated by Yohan; dying such a gruesome and horrible death was not something he wanted to experiment with in his old age.
It was better to be branded as a traitor than to die a shameless death.
"Young Master, we don’t know what happened to Patriarch Su Lin. Our role was simple: we had to send him to a meeting place arranged by the seven branch leaders..." another elder spoke, as he also didn’t want to die a gruesome death.
"We were simply pawns controlled by those branch families... those bastards are the ones who orchestrated everything. We were simply following orders..." the third elder spoke, knowing there was no point in hiding anything. The other two had already broken and decided to confess their involvement with the branch family leaders, who simply wanted to overthrow the current family that ruled over the Lin clan. The current Lin family, which Yohan was a part of, had ruled this clan for ten generations.
Su Wan Lin, Yohan’s grandfather, was a renowned Earth Realm cultivator who had led this clan for nearly eighty years, and his father, Su Lin, had been ruling this clan for nearly four decades. But unlike Su Wan Lin, his father, Su Lin, was not a high-level cultivator; he had reached his bottleneck in the late True Spirit Soul Realm with no hope of getting any breakthrough.
The current ruling family of the Lin clan was in shambles without any hope. The other families saw an opportunity when they learned Yohan was trash, lacking any talent for cultivation. So, they began plotting with other branch leaders and the elders of the six great factions, offering them positions and wealth once those families had taken over the clan.
"We had no choice but to follow orders to save our positions... all of us were scared, knowing we would be thrown out when the new family took over the clan. We just did what any other human being would have done; we saw an opportunity and grabbed it..." the oldest among the four whispered shamelessly, justifying their cause for colluding with the other branch families.
"Things took a different turn when those branch families learned that you are not trash, but had been hiding your cultivation all along... those were simply rumors spread by Elder Su Wan Lin or your father to protect you from any harm. The years of effort and planning to take down the current family were about to go in vain."
"Desperate times call for desperate measures..." one of the elders paused as he looked at Yohan.
Yohan simply smiled as he understood everything. These bastards had simply decided to take down his father, and they had baited his Grandpa Lin out of the clan.
"Crafty bastards..." Yohan whispered, leaning back against the chair.
Athena and Aana, along with Elder Song and Lucine, simply watched Yohan as he leaned backward. He was unfazed, maintaining a smile on his handsome face.
