Chapter 2 Who told you I'm no good?
Chapter 2 Who told you I'm no good?
The villagers all say that Qin Rushan lost his manhood to shrapnel on the battlefield and is now a useless eunuch!
Even when my mother-in-law is scolding people, she often says that the neighbor next door is a childless family.
But that sudden movement just now...
Qin Rushan was also taken aback.
Immediately, the man's ears turned bright red, burning hot in the darkness.
He was a virile young man, holding a soft and fragrant woman in his arms, a woman he had been thinking about for three years. It would be crazy if he didn't react!
Being questioned about one's virility by one's sweetheart is an utter disgrace for any man.
Qin Rushan's eyes changed; the eagerness to save people faded, revealing a wolf-like wildness.
Instead of backing down, he took a step forward.
They shrouded Xianglian in shadow and forced her into a corner of the woodpile.
His rough, large hand slid down her waistline, carrying an irresistible domineering force.
"Who told you I'm no good?"
He lowered his head, his lips almost touching Xianglian's earlobe.
The hot air, carrying the distinctive scent of male hormones, made Xianglian's legs go weak.
"What? Did your sister-in-law believe the rumors and think I'm a useless person?"
Qin Rushan grinned, a smile that carried a hint of wickedness and an indescribable meaning.
He grabbed Xianglian's hand and pressed it down.
"Why don't you try it now?"
Qin Rushan's calloused fingertips brushed against the soft flesh on the inside of Xianglian's wrist, sending a shiver down her spine.
The air was filled with the smell of fermented mold, mixed with the heavy dampness from the rain on the man's body, and that indescribable scent of hormones that rushed straight to his head.
Xianglian was so frightened by the word "try" that she held her breath.
She's just a country girl who's never seen the world, how could she withstand such a show of force?
Just when she thought Qin Rushan was really going to take her in this dilapidated woodshed, the iron arm around her waist suddenly loosened.
The man took a half step back, but the oppressive aura emanating from him did not dissipate.
In the darkness, a rustling sound could be heard.
Qin Rushan pulled out an oil paper package from his bosom, still warm from his body, and forcefully stuffed it into Xianglian's hand.
"Take it."
His voice returned to its usual cold and hard tone, but the hoarseness hadn't completely disappeared.
"What is this?" Xianglian asked, somewhat bewildered, holding the warm object in her hands.
"Meat buns".
Qin Rushan glanced at her, his eyes burning brightly in the darkness. "Don't starve to death. Stay alive, and see how I deal with them."
Without waiting for Xianglian's reaction, the man braced himself against the broken window frame with one hand and leaped forward.
It moved with the agility of a leopard that spends most of its time running in the mountains.
The rain was still falling outside. The tall, dark figure disappeared into the night in the blink of an eye, leaving only the rickety broken window and the wood chips scattered on the ground, proving that what had just happened was not a dream.
Xianglian slid down the pile of firewood and collapsed onto the ground.
The oil paper package in her hand was so hot that it made her palms burn.
With trembling hands, she peeled off the oil paper.
A rich aroma of meat exploded instantly, rampaging through the cramped woodshed and causing a spasm in her stomach.
That's a reaction from extreme hunger.
The plump, steaming buns were something she had never dared to dream of during her three years at the Zhao family home.
Xianglian opened her mouth and took a big bite.
Oil dripped down the corners of his mouth, a little greasy, but sweeter than honey.
She wolfed down her food, eating so fast that she choked and her eyes rolled back, but she kept trying to swallow.
Tears fell onto the oiled paper, mingling with the aroma of meat as they were swallowed.
Zhao Gang is having an affair, and the woman is about to give birth to his child.
The mother-in-law wanted to give her to a mentally challenged man to have a child, to squeeze out the last bit of value from her.
Her whole family treated her like a fool and used her like an animal.
Only the man next door, whom the whole village called "the cursed lone star," climbed over the wall on a rainy night and gave her a bite to eat to survive.
After finishing the last steamed bun, Xianglian wiped her mouth.
A flame now ignited in those once lifeless eyes.
That's hatred!
Since Zhao Gang is unrighteous, don't blame her for being unjust!
Why should she die? The ones who deserve to die are that heartless mother and son!
That night, Xianglian stopped thinking about that intractable problem. She hugged her knees and curled up on the straw mat, listening to the rain outside. For the first time, she felt at peace.
……
The next day, just as dawn was breaking.
The rain stopped, and the air smelled earthy.
"Bang!"
The already broken door to the woodshed was kicked open by the people outside.
The door panel slammed against the earthen wall, and dirt and debris fell down in a rustling sound.
Aunt Zhao stood at the door with a dark face, her triangular eyes slanted, and a broom covered in mud in her hand.
"That damn chicken, still sleeping soundly even though the sun's high in the sky!"
Looking at Xianglian huddled in the corner, Aunt Zhao was furious.
The torrential rain last night was so annoying; she was worried that the watermelons in the field would get soaked and rot, and she didn't sleep well all night.
That jinx is sleeping like a log.
"Get up right now! Go guard the melon patch! We're going to harvest all two acres of watermelons today. If even one rots, I'll peel your skin off!"
Spit flew far away.
In the past, Xianglian would have been so frightened that she would have gotten up tremblingly, apologizing as she ran to the field.
But today, the woodshed was eerily quiet.
Xianglian slowly stood up, leaning against the wall.
She was still wearing the same patched old clothes she had worn the night before, and her hair was a little messy, but her thin face had an unusually cold expression.
She brushed the grass clippings off her knees, raised her head, and looked directly into Aunt Zhao's harsh eyes.
"Mom, I'm not going."
Three words, light and airy, yet like a thunderclap from a clear sky.
Aunt Zhao was stunned.
She wondered if there was something wrong with her ears. This pushover who wouldn't utter a sound after three blows dared to talk back?
"What did you say?"
Aunt Zhao slammed the broom on the ground, her voice rising eight octaves, "You little slut, have you gone too far? Say that again!"
"I said, I'm not going to pick the melons."
Xianglian repeated it expressionlessly, without moving her feet, but her back was ramrod straight.
"Great! Great!"
Aunt Zhao was so angry that her fat jiggled, and her triangular eyes flashed with a fierce light. "If you don't discipline me for three days, I'll make you climb on the roof and tear off the tiles! It seems I didn't teach you a lesson last night, so you haven't learned your lesson!"
As she spoke, she picked up the broom, which was still covered in mud, and swung it around, aiming it at Xianglian.
If a thorny branch were to strike you, you would surely bleed.
Xianglian did not dodge.
She simply took a step back, coldly watching the falling broom, and parted her lips slightly.
"Mom, if you dare to hit me, I'll go to the village committee right now."
Aunt Zhao's hand froze in mid-air.
The broom tip was only half an inch away from Xianglian's face.
"Go to the village branch? What are you going there for? To complain to some bastard?" Aunt Zhao said rudely, but she felt a strange sense of unease.
Xianglian looked at her fierce-looking but cowardly old face and felt disgusted.
"Accus Zhao Gang of bigamy."
Xianglian emphasized these words very heavily.
The air froze instantly.
Aunt Zhao's dark red face turned deathly pale instantly, and her eyes bulged as if they were about to pop out of their sockets.
The broom in her hand fell to the ground with a "thud".
"You...you crazy woman! What nonsense are you spouting!"
Aunt Zhao's voice trembled with fear, as if someone had struck a nerve. "Gangzi is doing great things outside! Bigamy? That's slander! He'll go to jail!"
"Whether it's slander or not, just call your good son back and ask him, and you'll know."
Xianglian mimicked Qin Rushan's tone from the previous night, saying defiantly, "I'm working like a slave at home, while he's gotten another woman pregnant in the county town. Do I need to go into more detail?"
