Chapter 441 Living Desert
Chapter 441 Living Desert
"What do we do?" Isaac asked.
"Bosses and mini-bosses can change the tide of things. Especially the boss, which is why I am adamant about locating him. That aside, I think something caused the stampede because these monsters clearly aren't going to go through that gate even if you shove it in their faces." Godfrey rested a hand on his sword hilt.
"I could surround my dragons around them and burn as many as possible." Isolde added.
"How do we know they're not invulnerable to fire?" Neila asked.
"Such an ability rarely applies to all types of fire. I doubt it will apply to dragonfire. If it does, our chances of clearing this dungeon are down by seventy percent." Isolde replied as she looked at Godfrey.
Isaac puffed his cheeks and blew all the air out. If they wanted to protect themselves, it was only reasonable that they left this dungeon, but the public backlash would be severe.
The authorities would capitalize on it to imprison them. It was either work this out and clear this dungeon with their lives at risk or leave, protect their lives, and revert to becoming fugitives with stronger hate directed at them than ever.
His head throbbed.
Standing at the edge, Godfrey kept staring at the oasis, the dunes, and the formations at the horizon. He pondered and pondered while watching the stag monsters.
There were five twelve-foot-tall stags with massive horns and thick branches. Those ones were marked as the mini-bosses, and one amongst them had to be the boss.
Just by watching them Will Freeze smaller ones in their way, Godfrey knew those monsters were demigods. Brainless ones, though.
He had skills; they just had bestial instincts. This fight would have favoured him, but their strength was their numbers, and their numbers were so great they could cause despair.
They seemed endless.
While he pondered, he unleashed Ballista and a good number of Bow Knights to count them. Even if they couldn't get it all, they needed a number.
"What do you have to say?" Godfrey whispered.
'You finally asked for my advice. I would have remained silent until you died. Humph!' Immortal Armour snorted.
Godfrey shut his eyes for a good moment, then opened them. "Stop dramatizing. What do you know?"
'Calm down. You can't beat it out of me. Now, Ruinations are always different. I've seen quite a few. From what I've observed here, your greatest problem is the terrain. If you're not careful, it will kill you.'
Godfrey frowned. He looked around again. "The desert?"
'Yes. What chased the stags to the gate in your vision is the desert. I think it's alive.'
Godfrey's eyes flew wide. "What?!"
At that moment, there was a loud sound around the northern end of the desert, like the sky fell into the sand.
Godfrey became solemn when he saw the stag monsters look around, ears perked, eyes searching for the source of the sound.
'Attack them now!' Immortal Armour bellowed, and Godfrey turned to the others.
"Isolde. Dragons. Now."
Isolde instantly unleashed a dozen dragons. Grace, Luthor, Aion, Ghost, and Nyx led. Their shadows blotted out the sun, forcing all the stag monsters to look up.
Isolde leaned back, lifted one foot a bit, and launched the spear in her hand as that foot slammed into the rock, spreading web-like cracks.
The spear exploded through the air, piercing right through an eight-foot-tall stag, tearing off its head brutally.
Right at that moment, the dragons unleashed fire, frost, and lightning into the massive herd. Hundreds were burnt into ash in an instant, but that was all it took for the stags to scatter.
All of a sudden, sand burst up from the western and eastern ends, rising high like a tsunami. This redirected all the stag monsters straight for the stone formation maze, after which was the gate.
Godfrey pulled out his sword, and the stone formation he stood on began to sink. "The desert is alive, but its fangs outside this dungeon are this herd. We can't let them through!"
While saying that, he began to run in the same direction the herd was going. It would be stupid to jump into a stampede. Even if he wouldn't die, he wouldn't be able to stop them all.
The others followed him. They kept jumping from one rock formation to another as others sank, but when they landed on the next, they and the others in front all sank at the same time, with greater speed than the others.
One moment they were in the air, the next they were on the ground with a great stampede right behind them.
A dozen dragons were behind this stampede, and they had already burned a few thousand.
Isolde took to the skies, mounting Aion, while Godfrey used Echo to summon tendril wings.
As he shot forward, several dunes rose up without warning. Godfrey crashed into them, tearing collapsing holes through three of them before crashing onto the ground.
"Frey!" Isolde turned to where Godfrey fell.
Right then, large stones burst from the sand, tearing through the unfortunate monsters beneath them, but the targets were the dragons.
Luthor was the prime target. If he was left unchecked, the stag monsters would all be ash.
Massive stones erupted from the sand below like they were shot from cannons. Those stones dealt heavy blows to Luthor, forcing the black dragon to veer off course.
It fell headfirst, crashing into the sand, killing over a hundred stag monsters in the process.
As if that wasn't enough, stones hurtled from the ever-enclosing tsunami of sand.
Massive stones, much bigger than a man. Isolde pulled Aion's reins hard, avoiding a stone, but another hit the dragon's tail, forcing it to roar as its scales were ripped off.
Isaac activated Eclipsal State. The stones that came at him, he webbed and flung at the stag monsters right at his heels.
Three massive ones came, and Isaac slammed his feet into the sand, spun his waist, and unleashed thin silky ropes with surprising strength. They latched onto the rocks, and he spun himself.
The rocks, which struck the sand, began to move around, crushing stag monsters, and those that fell hit others behind them.
'We can do this!'
'We can do this!'
He kept yelling in his mind to block fear away.
Because the question almost nagged at his soul.
How do you fight against a desert?
